A Nation’s Tense Debate Over How to Fight Rape, in NPR

In February, 2019, Sierra Leone’s president, Julius Maada Bio, declared rape a national emergency, pledging services and funds to sexual violence survivors and a change in the country’s laws. In June, he lifted the emergency with no public explanation. Advocates for sexual violence survivors are left wondering what’s next.
