I teamed up with photojournalist Jason Larkin for a series on how Johannesburg’s mining legacy continues to impact one of the biggest cities in Africa today. Mountains of mine waste have become an integral part of Jo’burg, offering a place for dog breeders to exercise their hounds and sand boarders to practice on the weekends. But the toxic dust also raises significant health and environmental concerns, with activists, the government and industry battling over who is responsible for clean-up.
